Andy,

The only non-obvious ones on there are 3 to 5.

3 and 4 are RC inputs and need to be connected to signal connections on the RC receiver, on the same channels as the ones which go to the two motor controllers. These depend on the receiver, but are usually 1 and 2 for a Futaba. These connections ensure the engine sound changes as either track moves.

5 is another RC input and needs to go to the signal connection on another channel on the RC receiver. This must be a variable output. This one controls the sound unit and starts and stops the engine sound.

If you imagine it connected to a volume control, anywhere from 0 to 2 and the engine sounds are off, above 2 and the engine start sound is played, and then the engine idles. The 'speed' of the engine is controlled by 3 and 4 above, so that it revs up if you move either track. If you turn the volume all the way up to 10, the MG sound is played over the top of the engine effect.

I've fitted Thomas Benedini sound systems into all my tanks, but there are several alternatives out there.

For a simple plug-and-play installation, it's hard to beat the current Armortek module system.

Adrian.

Hi Andy

That's an original sound unit. Instructions for all the motion, sound, smoker, and blank firer, are included with the instructions. There also instructions for various essential mods like the drive sprocket taper lock and modified motor mounts. If you have the original electrics, you might want to think about upgrading to the latest Armortek modules. The originals were never up to the job. If you can post some pictures of the drive sprocket, motor mounts, and electrics, we can let you know where you stand.

You cannot go wrong by talking to Mark and Gill. I know they are always very busy, but you will find them both very helpful.

Hope this helps.

Mick

Hi there
I look forward to having another go with this sound unit when i get the instructions.

I have already modified the drive sprocket taper lock as i did not like the way it fitted.

As for the speed controllers i am looking for ones that have a braking function when the motors are off so it won't free wheel down hills. Or if i can't find them i my have a go at building some.

Regards Andy

A speed controller with a brake function is not the same as a handbrake function that you apparently seek. You can't do an electronic handbrake Based on a speed controller with the motors off. Or even with the motors on. You need to constantly keep repositioning a bit.

Hi there
If you short out the motor wires when stopped you will create a version of a break due to the high level or gear ratio.
