Tiger rebuild final drive rubbing!!!

Hi all Happy Christmas.
I have been stripping my new toy and i have found that the Final Drive gear is rubbing on the side of the hull and i have a small grove in the side do any of you know how to stop it rubbing.

I have tried to upload a photo.

Hi Andy.
This can happen if there is end float in the drive gear wheel.
Check that both gear case bearings are held firmly in the gear case with thread lock/stud lock and then fit the gear wheel to the bearing again using thread lock/stud lock.
Just make sure that you don't get, any of the three lock/stud lock into the bearings themselfs.
One other thing to note is that I think Mark at Armortek recommends not to use grease inside the gear case as this will pick up debris and turn it into a grinding paste.

Most of the machines I have stripped have had those sorts of witness marks:

I believe that if the main drive gear shaft is glued to the bearings with Loctite, and is pushed fully into the drive casing, it will be kept too far from the hull side to leave these marks.

Also, does the drive gear have any burrs around the edge of the teeth ?
If it does, run a file around it to give a slightly bevelled edge.

Is your main drive gear made from a single piece of steel, or a separate gear and shaft ? If the latter, it might be that the gear is not quite perpendicular to the shaft, Can you spin the gear in the gear case and see any wobble of the gear ? It might be enough to cause the score marks.

Me thinks no grease is a sure fire way of having loads of debris in the final drive :shock:
