Derek's slow build of 004 / 2014 issue
Hi Guys
So with the Comet getting close being finished I have been playing
with the first parts of the half track and that has been the wheels.
Some of these are cast as in the original kits. But Mark has also made
the thinest ones machined out of solid.
These should be much stronger than the original kit cast version.
This is the type machined from the soild and I have removed the slight machining marks by
careful use of a dremel and sanding drum.
The surface will be textured using high build upol primer to look like a cast wheel which
is like the real thing.
Below are the cast wheels and these are a good strong and much thicker section and have
great detail.
This picture shows all the wheels and the sprockets getting the first etch primer coat.
All of this is so I can glue the tyres on this at the same time as I do the Comet tyres.
I also have primed the sprocket and again this has had re-work from the original kit.
I hope you like. I have wanted one of these since the first issue of this model
and I am pleased to have gotten this one from the small batch of new kits.
I have to say it is an impressive kit and its good to see Mark has upgraded things he felt
needed attention.
First class company
Thanks
Derek

Guys
The rods that stop the cable coming off the drum are
silver steel soldered to a brass angle I had to machine from solid
as I could not find any thing off the shelf the right size.
it is worth doing as the real thing has them and the cable
was springing off the drum all the time.
the cable is 2mm diameter and came from B&Q DIY stores here in England.

Re: Derek's slow build of 004 / 2014 issue
Guys
One other thing I have done is to re work the tow hook as to be more like the original.
This is a work in progress as there is more details to add like handels and the chains to hold the pins in place.
It now works in the 3 axis like the real thing.

Hi Guys
With all the tracks and stearing fitted.
The arms on the stearling are silver soldered in to the knuckel for extra strength.
That is all for now and a Happy Christmas to all.

Derek,
Fantastic work on the SDKFZ7. Looking great. I too would like to find one of these kits. Top of my list. Keep us posted on your progress. Looks really good with tracks on. Are you making the standard troop carrier or flak-track? Happy holidays.
Best regards,
Bob
