I put my deposit down on a Tiger I from this last run. I am new to this and I don't know what I am going to get into, but it should be fun. I haven't ordered any of the motors or electronics yet. I figure I can do that down the line after I get it put together. Approximately how many hours are involved in putting it together? If my wife finds out how much I spent on this, she will run me over with it! LOL

Welcome. You'll find this one of the most welcoming communities around, full of supportive and knowledgeable folk who will willingly and freely offer sound advice. Don't be afraid to ask, we've all been there. You will find though that there is already a wealth of experience on previous forum posts, if you search.

Mark and Gill couldn't be more helpful. These kits are superbly engineered and they much prefer you contact them directly about anything you think is amiss, whether technical or to do with supply.

Build time? There is no single answer. I suppose a stock assembly without motion pack could be done in a couple of hundred hours or so. At the other end of the spectrum, the highly detailed, historically researched and detailed museum quality builds take anything up to two or three years or more. I've gained a huge amount of pleasure in the background research in recreating a specific vehicle in my builds and made a lot of friends on the way.

One final thought, the gatherings of Armortek owners at shows and the Open Day are a high point, which I'm sure you and your wife will enjoy (if she hasn't run you over).

So Did I.. I got the next to the last one. I tried having my office manager hide the payment in business expenses but my Wife ( a Russian generals daughter even) saw it and pitched a fit.

This is going to cost me around for times as much in purses shoes and a trip to Tiffany's.

I am busy now trying to find a mid production tiger without zimmerite to model mine on.
I love the clean lines of the tiger too much to gunk it up. But I want it to be accurate.

Congratulations on your purchase and welcome to the forum.
I have just had a quick look at dates quoted in the Modelers guide to the Tiger tank and found that the mid production run was from July 1943 to February 1944, Zimmerit was applied between August 1943 and the end of Tiger 1 production in June 1944. From the above dates there is a possibility that some very early Mid Tigers did not have Zimmerit but I do not recall seeing any photos of them.

I flip both ways on the zimmerite. It can look cool. But I love the clean lines of the tiger.
This will be a real return to child hood for me. The last toy my mother got me was a 1/16th scale tiger.
My wife thanks I am insane. But she was scared I was going to buy a real sherman, so this is a kind of a relief.

I think I may have a picture of a very early mid Tiger I, that only had Zimmerit on the turret the hull was bare but to build this you would have to back date a number of details on the model, the cupola on this Tiger if I remember right is the very first forward opening type

Regarding Mid Tiger I without zimmerit they was rare but existed.
According to Tiger senzi David Byrden 20 - 30 of them was made.

Thanks guys and congrats on your new Tiger Greg! I'm sure I will have a lot of fun and learn a lot long the way. I have always been interested in tanks since I was a kid. So is there anything that is prone to wear out when running these tanks or are they pretty much "bullet proof"?

The lawn is the thing which suffers the most, so it's good to have a tank running area away from the house

If you run on tarmac/concrete all the time, the track links will wear out, but not for many years and, given the number of Armortek Tigers out there, Gill will always have Tiger tracks in stock.
