John's Sdkfz 222
I have recently acquired this 222. It was on it's second build. Stripped it down for paint stripping and clean up. It should clean up like a new kit.
I was not too interested in a working rc model but this came with motion, sound and smoker upgrades and new Futaba 6EX. Packs appear to have just test running.
It will be a while before I get round to working on the kit as other kits in progress.
Plans to make all storage boxes ect.

Re: John's Sdkfz 222
I could'nt resist stripping some paint. Layers of paint and messy body filler. No sign of etch primer. Lots of light rust. Hard work but cleaning up nicely. Once fully cleaned I will imediately prime with upol etch primer. Complicated motion pack for this kit. I know nothing about differentials but saw quite a bit on the forum about differential oils. I might need some help with this. I have acquired some books on the 222 but any recomendations welcome. Missing some parts. One of the 3 sided hub protectors and the armour plate for lower front. Lights are broken but not planning on using them anway in current state. The weight of the solid metal light fittings caused the part that connects them to the body to break.

Hi John,
I have got one good book called Panzerspahwagen by Uwe Feist and Robert Johnston, Ryton Pub.
Costs me £39.95 via Landmark Booksellers a few years ago.
I might have this book already!
Cheers
Ian

Re: John's Sdkfz 222
Nice looking project.I found that the running gear requires a lot of very careful assembly if you intend to run it "on the road". One loose pin or grub screw and the model comes to an abrupt halt. No doubt other owners have come up with their own solutions with regard to diff oil but after many attempts I finally found that silicone grease for rc car diffs was a good solution. I used 1,000,000 weight(!) in the centre diff and 300,000 weight in the front and rear diffs. Put loads of hours on the model since with no problems. The trick is to remove all the gears from each diff scoop a blob of grease in and let it settle add the first gear add some more grease and repeat til the diff is full. The good thing with these diffs is that a new set of gears is about £7.Good luck with the model they are great to play with.

Re: John's Sdkfz 222
Hi John,
Nice wee collection of books you have……mines all over the place so difficult to photograph together?
I don't have the second book you photographed entitled Panzer Tracks No. !!-! cannot see the numbering!
But for sure would be a good book for reference when I get back to my own 222.
Also like your progress on cleaning up the 222 parts, so neat and tidy…..parts ready to assemble on the production assembly line……
Looking forward to your build……..
Cheers

Re: John's Sdkfz 222
Ian Panzer tracts 13-1. Great reference. Lots on the 222 and 223 variants. The Trojka is not so good as a reference. Just wartime photos and covering 4, 6 and 8 wheeled armoured cars. Only a few pages on the 222
