The next box I came to was against the wall. When I pulled it out, I found the source of the smell:
Fortunately, with Mark moving towards mainly aluminium construction, none of the parts seem to have been affected.
The smell of rancid PVA chips on the other hand
The box containing the track links was at the bottom of the main box, and has disintegrated, but again, the links themselves are OK.
Hopefully, a couple of hours in the sun will dry off the parts and again, I can re-box them in a plastic box.
