The Original Tigers

Post by martin pitcairn »

I saw Robin Ellis was on line and that reminded me that we were both original (first Batch) Tiger owners. I can not remember if we got them in 2003 0r 2004, I am sure gill will know! I just wondered how many of the originals are out there with their original owners or have they changed hands, are they still running? maybe we can post a current picture of these veterans? I just thought 10 years on it would be nice to see how this Tiger family grew up.

Hello Martin.

Well I have one of the original Tiger 1's from the first batch that I bought from John Spalding before Gill and Mark took over, so I guess she must count :D

Above is a picture of the tank running at Leighton Hall a few years ago but she is still in good shape with full batteries ready to go.
Cheers Paul.

Hi Guys,

I too have one of the original Mid-Tigers that I bought via John Spalding before Mark and Gill took over. It must have been the first only Tiger kits in the Glasgow area 10 + years ago, although I could be wrong!
Unfortunately it sits on the side lines, untouched for months maybe years while I moved on to other Armortek kits like the Panzer III and currently working on a T34-85 kit. Eventually, some day I will get back to the mighty Tiger with all my experiences gained on building on my other tanks.

Cheers
Ian

I have a 2006 late production Tiger which I am currently building - after a hiatus of 5 years! Have lowered the rear deck and is busy changing the Panther engine which I purchased from John Goode into the HL230 P45. I would like to incorporate my smoking unit (still in boxes) into the engine as to try and make the engine bay as accurate as possible. The research is quite easy with all the information available on this forum from the other masterbuilders who have completed their Tigers

Mike, that's I good looking Tiger, looks like its a brand new build. I was really lucky with mine as mark used it at lots of shows in the UK, so it came back with Factory fitted smoke, the original blank firer and upgraded electrics. Since we have lovely weather here I might just take it out for a spin (no Crocs here). well that's 9 found and still alive, maybe the Tiger is not endangered.

Hi
I am also the proud owner of one of the original 'mid' production Tigers, which I recently purchased from this forum, I am in the long winded process of retro-fitting it to an early one, with the assistance of Mike Stannard's after market parts. I intend over time to try to detail it properly, it runs fine, and I have fitted a sound system which it was lacking. Photo of it as I received it attached.

Hi Martin, my Tiger is still going strong. In all the years that I have it, I have only had one of the 4 QD's repaired. Never broken a track link or anything else. I did fit a new set of tracks last year!

Hi All

I have been looking to see what information I can find and it seems that the first Tiger's were despatched Spring/Summer 2003. The records I had passed to me from this time are paper files! and mostly packed away now. Therefore the first Tiger's are certainly celebrating their 10th anniversary! Perhaps we should get as many of the original ones together as possible at the Armortek day in September for a photo call?

Very pleased to see William Bath making progress with what was my Tiger until a few weeks ago and to hear that he is happy with his purchase.

interesting topic, here's my mid tiger early production, i purchased the tank around 2006, rusting in a shed abandoned in kit form, all the original electrics came with it and are now fitted but i have never run it, it was my first armortek build and model construction for a long time, i bought a complete early mid tiger before this one but sold it to buy this kit, i liked the models so much i bought some more, regards simon manning.
