smoke with recoil

Hi .... has anyone any ideas about a cloud of barrel smoke being produced when the Armortek firing sound and recoil is used? The Armortek sound and flash are quite realistic, but smoke would enhance it. I can only think of some sort of smoke unit being activated by the barrel recoil and smoke being piped up the barrel. Any other ideas please? Many thanks.

I've wondered about that for some time also. The closest I've ever come is with baby powder carefully deposited in the gun barrel of a modified plastic M5 Stuart. It has a co2 driven air pistol mounted in the turret and is meant to fire pellets. I bought the tank on line and never got any pellets for it. The problem would be to deliver the right amount of powder automatically to the base of the barrel to be blown out by the subsequent blast of co2. If one were to go with a smoke generator then it would seem that the slow start/stop sequence would be the challenge to deal with. Hopefully this thread will result in a solution from some of our experts because this would definitely add to the realism of the model.

The main problem, as Lawrence says, is to get a sharp enough blast of smoke to be realistic. A polite cough of smoke doesn't really do it.

Personally, I think it would take more pressure than a fan based system could provide, so you're looking at a pressurised container of some sort and a high speed valve, capable of withstanding that pressure, releasing a burst and then shutting off again.

I'm sure such things exist, it just find the right place to look,

One problem I can foresee is that a high pressure blast of air/gas is likely to empty the smoke chamber of fluid as well as smoke.

Adrian, how about this? On my Pz III, I used a Robart pneumatic system for the recoil. That consisted of a pressure vessel and a servo driven valve and actuator. If you could arrange to bleed smoke from the smoker into a linear chamber in the barrel, you could feed a pressure line with a servo controlled valve into one end and blast the smoke out the other via another valve. I'm sure with clever electronics you could sequence the valves so that the chamber is filled and then evacuated. The body of the Robart actualtor might be just the job for the smoke chamber, if the piston was removed and you put a valve at both ends. I'd draw a schematic but it's a bit early in the morning. It would be a total, loss system but i don't think that matters as the cylinders hold a lot of pressure, more than enough for a number of good squirts.

I'd like to think we can crack this because I don't find the blank firers at all convincing as a representation of a high velocity tank gun.

The test3 runs with an improved old Armorteksmoker ( another heater element)and a autarkic pressure systhem in the tank.
