30A fuse in Power Supply Module

Hi fellows,
During a short running last Sunday, my KT was suddenly stopped. To lift it on trolley and push it back to garage was a nightmare!!!

After checking, it was found the 30A fuse in the Power Supply Module was burnt-out.




Has it happened to anybody before? This is my first time. I wonder whether will it happen again? From now on I will remember "Never run KT without having a spare fuse set on hand".

Your valuable suggestion on how to prevent it from happening again will be much appreciated!

Hello there.

This has happened to me once while moving a tank out of the workshop, it was a very tight squeeze due to other tanks on the floor and the reason it happened was I got the front of one track jammed on the leg of my bench and the fuse popped, I do believe its a safety thing to prevent any more costly damage? it has never happened since.
But the carrying of a few spare fuses is a good idea, as you found out.

What Paul says is basically correct. One thing to note is that the fuse should be 40amps, not 30 amps. This is important if you have 4QD speed controllers. If you have the new Armortek speed control module, a 40amp fuse should still be fitted, but it is only a second line of defense. The module has built in real time current limiting to protect against fuse failure in normal driving conditions.

Back on late September 2011, after changing of 18-teeth sprockets and Oalf's late-type single tracks, the KT had made more heavy duty runnings without broken down. The last Sunday running was the 1st time after adding of one extra track link (from 97 to 98 each track). I wonder did the track jammed while doing backward/steering?

Made in steel alloy, it was nearly as twice heavy as the original track. Could that be part of the reason?

Anyway, I will prepare more of 40A fuses just in case. The 30A fuse was connected as Armortek's stock part.
