Sons of Guns

Post by Steven Ford »

This series has just started on Discovery HD today. I watched some trailers a while ago and they feature, amongst other things, a quad mount replica German MG on a later program.

I suspect that quite a few people on this forum will find the series of interest.

Over here in the states the show will be on it's 3rd season in December. On that show they do custom modifications of fully automatic and semi automatic firearms for customers.

The point of the quad MG42 was because the customer wanted a quad fifty, but couldn't afford all the cost in ammo and M2 machine guns.

This one was one of my favorites, A semi automatic replica M1928 Thompson that was converted to select fire, and modernized for SWAT team usage.

Its all totally put on for the camera. The episode with the 57mm cannon... those jokers don't know anything about cannons. The guy who "came along" with the owner is a friend... and he can tear down and rebuild a 57mmm with his eyes shut... the show called them wanting a cannon on it... so take what you see with a grain of salt... just like a Thompson used for SWAT?

I'm an FFL and Class II in the USA (I sell and can build post sample MGs) and this show is for entertainment purposes ONLY!

I agree about the show being fake (it is reality TV after all).

As much as I like the Thompson build, it is a bit unnecessary for SWAT team usage. A UMP, or a SBR AR15 would be a better fit.

I still enjoy the show though for it's entertainment purposes. It's not like there are a whole lot of other tv shows on basic cable that showcase a 57mm, or MG42.

Having viewed a few more episodes I am tending to agree that things are not necessarily all they appear to be. The quality of the engineering seems a bit dubious in places but that is only an amateur's view.

Perhaps I'm just a sucker for people yelling 'Yeehaw' and blazing away into the scenery.
