scale conversions

g'day,

i've been measuring 1/35 panzer peices and converting to 1/6 scale. when measuring for example a peice measures say 11.45mm ( i use an electronic caliper) convert to size then ivide by 6 i get 66.79mm.

the questions are.
how accurate are the 1/35 measuremetnts, and
should measrements be rounded up/down not all all?

Don't go off any plastic model always go off the real thing if possible. Don't forget that 1/6th is 2" to the foot.

I have found that most kits have scale differences in them the smaller the kit the more differences their can be .I have found tamia kits are quit good ,and would avoid the cheeper kits, im sure others will put you on to other kits that they think are worth looking at . If you want a working model then some things need to be relaxed due to strenth and durability Iwould only take mesurement from 1/35 scale kit or bigger.As to ,should you round up or down or leave as is , its entirely up to you and what you want to achieve .I dont think their is a right or rong in this because it is down to the idividual person making it.If it was me i would do all three ,but thats just me , i would not round up more than three mill or down three and sometimes i would keep the size as is depending on what it is and where it is.You can allways double check your sizes from books ,but they can have errors in them to, so be carefull .The main thing i think is to get it as good as you can and enjoy it .

Hi Ray,

The kit I would use for checking the details missing from the armortek kit. Any thing you scale up needs to fit the armortek kit. Easier to scale down from the real thing. I took a few part measurements from the Kalamegdan Panzer IV. I have gathered some good books also. I find the difficult thing is getting decent detailed drawings. I think I have enough to tackle the turret shurzen and maybe the hull shurzen also but will probably just do the rails for the hull shurzen. There are quite a lot of casting numbers visible on the panzer Iv. Worth spending some time on these. I have some work done on the bumpstops also but will wait to see what comes with the kit. Hinges will also be an issue. Looking forward to seeing a panzer IV under the Christmas tree.

The 1/35 kits are typically inaccurate as others have stated. I have been able to find the measurements I need on the internet or reference books. I also use Scale Convert app on my ipad or iphone, it comes in quite handy.

i didnt know there were conversion apps. i just measured the 1/35 and multiplied it by 35 then divided by 6. i assumed this is the way its done as the trials i did gave accurate results with things i knew.

my problem regarding getting books, magazines and diagrams and seeing the actual vehicle is that i'm reproducing the bruckenleger b. so i'm measuring the bridge pieces and doing the conversions and making templates out of 6mm mdf pieces.

if anybody can find me the diagrams/line drawings and measurements of the b or c bridge i will clean your house for a year.

i have panzr tracts 14 armoured combat engineer vehicles.

i'm very passionate about building this so all help will be greatly appreciated.

I used a Tamiya kit as a base for my STUG III and I also measured the one in
Bovingdon the measurements at 1:6 scale were within Imm going either way.
Thats good enough for me...
