Jumping ahead here to some turret detailing. I am attempting to make some periscope detailing parts for the commanders cupola. Here are the first parts from which I will make a mold and cast in either white metal or resin. I would like to fit some prisms also. I might try some crystal clear resin but it depends on the costs.

John,
I really love what you have done to the stock mud guards - a great inspiration!

Casting your own parts - that's really something!

Cheers and good luck with the foundry!

Got some rubber today so will start making molds at the weekend. I also got some clear resin so will try some optics to fit the periscopes also. I may make some optics to fit the drivers vision port also. Need to find some uses for this as you buy by kilo. Hope it works. Worth a try.

I will also start work on the rear mudguards soon. I will try to make somthing closer to late tiger design. Soldering is not my strong point.

I asked before about how to attach the spare track links to the turret and various methods were mentioned. One was to fit pins to the upper retainer and drill the top of the link. I have done this but feel they will not stand up to much abuse. It was also suggested that screws be drilled through the turret wrap to secure the links. I have now done this and am happy with the result.

Excellent build, just a comment for correctness, the fine mesh was only fitted under the intake grill covers.

My cupola periscopes are now in production. Finished a few sets. They will fit the mid and late Tiger 1 and also I believe the King Tiger if ever I get one.

Next phase will be to make clear resin inserts. I have some crystal clear resin which I believe can be polished and even tinted.

I will get back to the periscopes and vision blocks soon but for now I will crack on with the hull.
I was able to use the kit front mudguards with some modification but the rear kit mudguards were very wrong for a late Tiger and could not use any part except the hinge pin. Got some brass sheet and a new soldering iron and with some help from a tutorial on the forum have set to making my own.

I still have a lot to learn about soldering but will keep at it.
