Gill,

One note from a red/green color blind guy, I can't really see the red Armortek tag in the post listings. I only know it says Armortek because I can't see it.

Dark reds and greens on a dark background are nearly impossible for us color challenged folks to see. Yellows, light greens, and lighter blues / purples(?) work well for us genetically handicapped types.

I don't think the Search function is working.

Enter Tiger in the search field and it can't find any references in the forum

Hi Adrian

The search function isnt working. The PHP upgrade notes tell us that we have to re-index the search function. They dont tell us how to do that, which is not very helpful. We will work on it.

Login as the boards administrator user.

Go to the Administrator Control Panel

Go to the Maintenance tab

On the left, under DATABASE, select "Search Index"

Under "Fulltext native", click on the "Delete Index" button on the bottom right, then once the old index is deleted, click on the button again, which should now say "Create Index".

Do this on a backup Forum first :!: :!:

We can discuss my fee at the Open Day

Amazing amount of work you have put in, very much appreciate you continue to work for us. I can offer a few tidbits based on my limited experience:

1. For some time I'd been checking my prior link to the Forum Index page only to see a message "Sorry, but this board is currently unavailable. Please try again later". Could you arrange some kind of redirect for those of us with old links?

2. Your old forum had an bookmark icon (*.ico file probably referenced on the page header) with the English flag in color. It made your bookmarks appear so distinct in my Bookmark Library of my browser. Now I see no bookmark on the Browser toolbar, or in my newest bookmarks.

Maybe an oversight, or it might already be on your agenda.

3. I was taught that the easiest color combinations to read, especially over lengthy sessions, are black letters against a white background. It is taking me some effort to read the white or any color of text on the pages against the dark background - even as snappy and high-tech as it all looks.

It has helped that I hit "command +" to increase the size of the letters but that does not seem to enlarge all the word text sizes on the page that I see, nor does it increase the size of the Smilies and other bits for example.

Call me a Neanderthal, but I'd like to see you try white or slightly off-white background with black letters.

4. The prior forum seems to have tolerated posting larger avatar images than does this with the current 80x80 pixel limit. This 80x80 limit makes the images of vehicles in particular so small as to not be as fun to see as they were previously. Could you restore the prior size limit? I see no reason why the images could not be as wide as the column for example, of course I am not familiar with forum set up either.

5. And just to keep my head from exploding while trying to figure out the order of things, might you list the models on the Board Index Page in alphabetical order for example? Maybe Tiger I then Tiger II at the top, followed by the other unimportant little tanks.

Martin

PS: of course it could be that I have been affected by the recent earthquake here, then by Hurricane Irene, so I take none of the blame for the bad and any credit for the good ideas. :)

I'm enjoying the new forum. Love the colour options. 8)
One little thing, could when a member posts a web site address, that that address opens in a new window?
Keep up the good work!

Many thanks

SQL Error

Post by Stephen White »

Like Adrian, I've experienced a few SQL errors, one dumping a post with photos when I pressed "submit". Error message as follows:

SQL ERROR [ mysqli ]

Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 0 [2013]

An sql error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact an administrator if this problem persists.

Hope this is useful. Otherwise, it's a great upgrade.

Best regards

Stephen

PM notification - can we have the pop-up window back please ?

I've just seen that when a new PM comes in, all that happens is the "No New PMs" button changes to "New PMs" - not particularly obvious :?

Or maybe make the PM button itself go red/blue/green/puce :?:
