Does anyone have the recoil distance for the KwK 39 L/60 and the KwK 37 K/24 ?
I've looked through my usual books (Trojca, Speilberger) but to no avail.

L60 recoil distance

Deafening silence! I can't answer your question directly but here's how you work it out:
I'd forgotten about this photo which is the Bovvy Pz IIIL.
The gun is partly run out already, so the recoil distance will be the sum of distance A in the picture (run out) plus the distance from the rear face of the breech to the recoil indicator mark (distance B).
The recoil indicator is common to most tanks and is a simple slide mechanism reset manually. When the recoil buffers start to lack puff, the gun runs out further and further and to prevent it going through the rear turret wall, the crew needs to recharge the buffers once the indicator gets to the red line. Simple if you remember to check. Some don't........
Should be the same for the L24 and you should be able to get to the indicator at Bovvy as the interior is accessible. I confess I guessed for my recoil system.
Best regards
Stephen

Many thanks Stephen - interesting that the gun is midway in its stroke - is thath because the system hasn't been recharged ?
Dennis, I hope to be at Bovvy on Thursday morning, as I'm working in Dorchester that evening, but if you wouldn't mind getting the dimensions as well - I never know with work whether it will get rearranged at short notice.

From Appendix J to the Preliminary Report No 5 on Pz.Kpfw III
"The recoil indicator is graduated from 380mm to 470mm, with the 'Feuerpause' at 455mm"
This is for the short 7.5cm KwK.
So the mid point between the minimum and the recommended limit is 380+((470-380)/2) = 380 + 37.5 = 417.5 mm
420mm in 1/6th is 70mm, so that's what I'll aim to replicate.
The recoil/flash system is up and running, I just need to move the system to the new microprocessor board and tidy up the wiring loom.
