2.4ghz, I just love this control system I have just had to change the 4 AA batts in the tx for the first time in 2 years maybe even longer!

Which sort of batteries does it take - Alkaline, NiCad, NiMh ?

That's good going for a non-rechargable battery. My transmitters seem to last about five or six hours on one charge, using NiCad batteries.
What make is the transmitter ?

The Spektrum dx6i has a very small current requirement, I don't use it for long periods and I always swicth off when it's quiet, all the same that's pretty good going
