Me too

I've got two benches, one on each side of the workshop.

That way I can tidy one onto the other and, as long as I'm facing the right
way, everything looks ship shape

Hello Phil, hello Dennis, what a week.....after a long 'think' and a 'site' meeting....it has been agreed, that, I will continue with the Comet build, or be it at a much slower pace.
As explained I do need to fit in other commitments, the plan to finish the build in good time for our local 'shows' is now on hold, so no pressure there.
I had already tested the option modules, consequently, and to show I mean business, I have fitted the two drive motors. I also followed your advice Phil and tagged all the wiring as I pulled the plugs apart.
So, a quiet weekend and then, a gentle startup.....now, what can I ask Phil and Dennis.....

Glad you are getting things sorted and hope your wife is back to good
health and fit soon.
You mentioned you have fitted your moters.
A tip I picked up off the other guys last year,when you connect your
wires back up to your motors us a big cable tie round the motor and cables
as a safety measure so the cant pull off.
they are all really tight at first but the more you have them on and off they
loosen up and that bottom one is a devil to get at when all your stuffs in.

Thanks for that advice Phil, I have looked carefully at your 'option' installations, and Dennis, very useful photo's.
The questions may come thick and fast now I am back in build mode......did you fit your M/G, before fitting the front plate, that holds the power supply.?
I am trial fitting the P36 Mount to the rotation motor, the M3x8 cap screws seem short....??
We had a couple of friends visit today...Tony is an electrician , he was amazed at the power of the drive motors.....as he said 'you could pull a tank with those'.
I have invested in a Digital Multimeter, while Tony was here I picked his brain, and asked him to explain how to circuit test for faults.
I have been very careful when disconnecting the wiring, but you never know, I should now be able to check for a wiring problem.....not that I am expecting any.

Yes I did the Mg's first,its easier and especially if you have got some
of stevens MG's with led's.
There is a bit more cutting with the turret one,but they both look good.
RE Rotation Motor
I think I used 10mm in the end,after checking that there was clearance
inside the motor which there was.

Hi Mick,

Glad to hear you are back in production, when you push the connectors on to the motors I trim back the plastic coating on the connector so it will push on a bit further, also give them a bit of a squeeze up so they are a nice tight fit and as Phil says cable tie them to the motors. I you look at my photos I have fixed the m/c gun in position using a bit of brass strip, I was going to do a moveable one but have run out of channels. So just will be switching between the 2 m/c guns using a relay on Channel 5.
Depending on how you mount the psu mounting tray you might find the nuts on the rotation mount might foul the top of the psu, I moved mine back to under the turret ring.
Be careful with those motors they don't stop for anything.

Motors installed, drive and turret turn, I have noticed that the gear is very close to the brass turret ring. I have not tested the turret motor in situ, so I hope it clears the ring.
I guess it will be wise to remove the tank tracks, before testing, do not want drive the Comet straight of the dinning room table. I have also fitted the power supply plate. I think I can fit Steve's M/G later.

Hello Phil, yep....it's an old oak table dinning table beneath the Comet.
I get a few strange looks from time to time, when visitors arrive....from 'my gawd whats that'....to, 'how did you get it all the way up there'.
The Comet has had pride of place in the dinning room since its arrival last September.....I don't know how I get away with it.

I am as bad the wet winter not last but the one before was so wet that I built a Tiger1on a similar table so that I did'nt need to even venture outside and it stayed on the table for 6 months, when we needed to eat I just slid it up one end!

Phil, There are certain situations where 'men's needs' must come first.....now, question time.

Phil and Dennis....
I have given the internal options/batteries/etc, a coat of looking over. With a little adjustment I can fit every option within the hull. Although the power supply tray is too high to clear the turret plate, bolts/nuts. I have lowered the plate.

After your post Phil/Dennis, and looking carefully at both your photo's, as long as I keep everything that should go below the turret line......below the turret line. I will be okay.
Will I have room for the fitting of the elevation motor, the gun/drum/firing unit etc,, and any other fittings, in the turret.
For example, the 'drum' does not encroach or will require room in the hull. ???

Also my batteries are quite large...I have laid them flat to get them as far forward as possible.....hope this makes sense..... mick

Hi Mick you are doing well
You should have no problem getting into the turret,everything you have
got.
When you mention drum,have you got the blank firer optio?
The batteries usually have to go flat.most are going same as the manual
one up front as far as you can go and one further back near the middle.
For some reason a couple of the cables from the power supply to the
modules at the back are just short so they will need extending,I think
Dennis might have reminded you of that.
I have brought my battery cables and charging cable to the rear so I can
get at every thing through the 2 big doors.
Dennis I think has got switch's up the front on the power supply plate.

Hello Phil, thanks for your reply.
The battery to the front, is laid flat on a one inch board.....to arrive as far forward as possible.
I had to do this, to clear the turret motor. I countersunk the front plate deeper so that the CSK screws were concealed...this, of course, pushed the M bolt lower, fouling the PSU top. I could just cut/file the M bolt to give me that extra room, I am quite happy the way things are now though.
I turned the front plate over, leaving plenty of room for the PSU....I can still reach the switch, and the power leads go either side of the turret motor body.

I have noticed that yourself/Dennis/John, all have slightly different layouts. So, 'a little bit of what you fancy' as the saying goes. Just as long as it works.

Yes Phil I have the' BIG GUN '.....it's a man thing....

I was a little concerned that the drum would come down into the hull, I would therefore need to consider the space available. On reflection, I have to say that the main gun 'sound' on the sounds board, is beautiful to behold.....so I will give this more thought at a later time...... mick
