Type 1 Periscope Prisms made from clear resin

Post by Mike Stannard (toyrific) »

Hi Guys

It has been some time since I offered the Acrylic Prisms and have not been able to find someone that was able to cut them to my satisfaction so I investigated casting them in clear resin. It has taken a while with several tests, but the final results are outstanding, much better than the acrylic samples I had made.

These look like the real glass prisms I offer, and actually work, but not as well as the glass ones.

There is one problem producing these and it is time. The resin takes 16 to 24 hours to cure depending on the heat of the day. I have only made one mold which producers 5 units at a time, so that is all I can make each day. If there is enough demand for these I can speed up production by making more molds.

These are sold as single units, two are required for each periscope, top and bottom. Single units are available for those that only want exterior detail.

These prisms fit: The Tiger 1 Driver and Radio Op periscopes and the mid production loaders periscope. The Tiger 2 Driver and Radio Op periscopes. The Panther Driver, Radio Op and Loaders periscopes. All Jagdpanther periscopes. Plus any other tank that has the type 1 periscopes fitted. However they will only fit my periscopes housings in items TT28, TT33 and Pan15.

If you want to use a video camera in conjunction with your periscopes these will not work well enough, you need the real glass prisms, item number PP01 which are special order items.

PP03 Tiger 1 & 2 Periscope Clear Resin Prisms 1 Unit (For TT28,TT33 and Pan15) $15.00

Here is a picture of six prisms, 4 are resin and two are glass, can you tell which are the real glass ones.

Same thing here, one is resin and one is glass.
