Aerial painting

Post by Andy Payne »

Just doing some corrective maintenance on my Tigers aerial, and was looking for evidence of whether they were painted or not/what colour they were or was it really up to the individual unit.Mine was previously painted the same as the vehicle. Is this correct? Also a note on the new 2.4 GIG radio I've also installed.Put in a Spectrum unit and couldn't be happier .Fully internal aerial and the range test far surpassed my old 36 Mhz set.If you were thinking off 2.4 GIG I would say ,don't hesitate.

Hi Andy,

The antenna was painted in the same colour as what was used as the base colour at that period in the war.

During the Panzer grey period it was Panzer grey.
From Kursk to September 1944 it was Dunkelgelbe and later in war it was dark green.
Of curse as with everything ww2 German this facts differs but I am quite sure if your Tiger is Mid or Late go for a Dunkelgelbe antenna.

Thanks so much Kent.Never ceases to amaze me the level of knowledge in this forum. You not only supplied my answer, but backed it up with detailed photos.
Thank you again for straightening me out on this.Seems I had it correct from the start, but owning one of these tanks requires an ongoing maintenance program, and my aerial required some TLC.
Best Regards
Andy
