Paul and Paul,
My post was intended to be OTT and satirical, and not character assassination!
Mr Wills seemed irked that a model had been "rejected because it was in the wrong makers category". If this statement relates to tank models at all, I am interested to know why and where, because many of the model-makers on this forum would probably like to know too.
If this was the case, it follows that the judges' decision reflects a growing pedantry in the hobby. Unfortunately, and perhaps unintentionally, Paul's last paragraph implies that the "wrong" sound sample makes the model uncompetitive and not worth showing. I find that prospect distasteful and worth of poking a little fun at.
Simon and Richie are right, if you like the Panther sample more than the Tiger, fit it. It can't be any less accurate than the sound of the 12bore blank firer nor any less realistic than the weak stream of vapour that we all accept as representing exhaust fumes.
Mr Lord wisely has put the issue to one side. So all the "pleasant comment, views and information " clearly solved that one then. Not.
Then there is the whole issue of speaker design, frequency response and hull location, which can make your Tiger or Panther sound like a Sherman anyway! Perhaps time for a new thread..
Cheers,
Fabrice
