Thanks for the comments. It's good to get an exchange of info going.

Jim: yes, opened up the holes but also followed the real thing and used smaller bolts on the lower holes (M3 at the top and 7BA at the bottom).

Lawrence: I'd like to say I was clever enough to use a mold but no, I shaped them by hand using Milliput. I did cut a profile from scale drawings just to give me a rough guide but it was basically a question of judgement by eye. Sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear!

Lawrence

I joined the upper hull plates using two reinforcing pieces held by bolts tapped into the plates and cut off flush with the surface.

I had the same problem with the bend in the rear top plate. I cut off the rear overhang and replaced it with an aluminium plate machined to scale shape and thickness. See my earlier posts.

Thanks Bob - I've been concentrating on tidying it up for the Open Day and putting on some detail. I've just put all the hex head bolts on the shock absorbers, eight on each. So work has stopped for the moment on re-profiling the road wheels and making new hinges for the transmission hatches.

Gill has organised beautiful weather for the Open Day as ever so I'm looking forward to a wonderful day.

Transmission Deck Hinges

I've Lawrence Godson to thank for realising that the transmission hatch hinges should be a lot bigger that those in the kit. The Jenz and Doyle drawings and pictures of the Bovington vehicle confirm it. The first took me a couple of hours, some work on the mill and a lot of hand filing and sanding to get the final result.

Those are great. You should rent one to one of our parts sellers to make a mold and castings for all of us to buy :')

As far as producing them for others, I could be wrong but they sure look like the correct hinges for the Panther and Jagdpanther rear deck's engine hatch as well. Maybe?
