My Stug conversion

That is some amazing work, very impressive, can't wait to see it finished.
I have not seen any drawings showing how the visor opens and closes but there is a picture in Achtung Panzer no.2 Pz III on page 22 that shows the drivers position from the inside on a Pz III G and it looks like there is a handle on the left side to work the visor.
Here are a few pictures showing the visor from the outside in the open position.

phantastic work Derek, enjoying your posts and photos. You will have a great model and very unique as well. Super skill. The weight of this top must be more than the hull. Do you feel you must have stronger torsion springs ? Very impressive workman ship with all the different angles.

Hi Roland
The top is about 4 kg lighter than the PZ III Turret and the
box it sits on so the kit bars should do just fine.

The recovery time from Knee replacement 12 - 15 weeks and this is the second time on this knee....
I have been doing some more work on the MG shield adding mounts for the MG and the pin bracket that will lock to the loaders hatch to hold it in place like the real thing. The hinges need pins but I will only fit those after painting is finished.

I am going to the tank museum tomorrow as I have never been there.

Hi Guys
Not a lot of progress in the last few days I had a great trip to
the tank museum were I met Per Sonnervik measuring the king Tigers and the Panther, This was not planned but just by chance but was a nice suprise
to have someone to chat to and a nice pint at the pup in the early evening.
I took loads of measurements from the ex Finnish Stug they have and things match up really well to what I have made so this is GOOD.
I have worked on the loaders hatch and started the new front panel access
hatches.
I also now have a plan for the gun mount and pivot and I have today started work on those parts.
I will post pictures in the next few days when there is something
worth seeing.

Sorry for the delay in these pictures but we have had major problems with our Virgin Broadband not working.
I have been making the parts to mount the gun so it can turn and elevate.
I have still to make the pivot shafts and the brass pivot bushes for the mounting brackets.
This is a top view in place.

This has been a lot of machine work and the modification to get something
that will work and also fit.
I will make the pivot bushes next and the gun pivot shafts.

Derek,

The Stug is looking superb, you've put a lot of work into it. I believe that the gun elevated with about 5 deg of traverse each way. Are you going to mount an extension to the rear of the gun to give the elevation system a reasonable amont of leverage. I think it is important to have a good solid elevation and traverse system otherwise you end up with a wobbling weapon which does not look good at all !!!.

Yes I will have a nice arm on the back for elevation.
Like the system on the Panther.
The rotation shaft will be again be bushed with brass and will be mounted
to the square section of the fighting compartment base plate as shown in the picture below.
