Cone head bolts

Steve - hello. For some reason, my pms to you remain in my outbox.

I've asked simon manning where he got the cone head bolts on his Tiger and he said you had supplied them with a pistol port. I'm building a Panzer III and have worked out that the original had about eighty of them. I know Dale is also interested and I wondered if you might be able to supply or recommend a source? I've been looking with great admiration at the parts you've been supplying to the Tiger community.

Hi Stephen, The pistol port and cone bolts come from Vince Abbot, I made a few cone headed bolts but would not like to make 80 of them

The best bet would be to try and find a machine shop, or if not I could get them cast in brass, a approximate estimate would be around Â£1.50 each, but you would have to hand thread them when you get them back from the caster. They would be made of lost wax castings so the pattern will need to be very good.

Thanks for Trying Stephen . Peter smith in Newcastle used round headed riverts he machined a point on them . I still have some copper armortek supplied round headed ones from my early tiger . I will give it a go on my lathe and let you know how they look .We don't need a thread on them , as they can be glued in place as they are just for show .. Dale

Dale - I was thinking along the same lines. I'd also considered using plain metric hex socket bolts, putting a milliput addition on them and machining that. But the round head route sounds better. Hi all,
I have made some, but not yet fitted them.
I took 3mm, if I remember correctly, socket headed bolts, then fired up my brazing torch and filled them with brass so that I could file them down to a point. They appear to look the part and did not take too long to make. I hope this provides ideas!

Hi Stephen,

As I have had another request for cone headed bolts, I have decided to make nut cones instead of bolts, this way you can put your own bolts or studing in. I will send these out to be cast in brass, and I estimate they would be about 50p each. I will be getting 200 cast, so if you are interested let me know and I will keep some back for you.
Below is a photo of ones I made in steel and will use these as a pattern

I am interested in ordering some; but can you possible price them in packs of 20? I am in the US and can't equate 50p to GBP? And, given that quite a few would/will be needed, I was thinking such a quantity would make more efficient ordering as well.

Jim, 50p is half a GBP, so about 70 cents US at the moment.

Hi Steve these look real nice ! Can you tell me their DIA and what tape of bolt is used ? or thread ? Also from the other guys how many do we need for a PZIII or stug . Dale

Hi Dale,
These are drilled and tap 3mm the overall diameter of the cone is just over 1/4" which should shrink when they are cast. These work out 1 1/2" full size. I will be sending them to the caster this week, and ordering a small batch.
