no set up possible

Post by Didier Molard »

Hello.
I have an issue tImagerying to set up audio pack red box, bought "a certain time ago" for updating my comet (early red boxes as per design of the main power box)
installed as per the book (using Y cable to distribute motors signal to 1&2, + 3way switch on position 3)
No sound when switching on the system
not possible to get a "beep" when pressing programming button.
Anyhow, i'v' tried to perform the set up as per instructions but without result (i've also tried moving the 3 way button opposte direction in case my schwitch was reverted)
transmitter is futaba T7c, working on former silver boxes,
3 way switch being on channel 5 (as formerly)
set up on power module done without issue just before, and batteries are "full"
Any idea ?
regards
Didier

Hi Didier,
Are the motors working as expected ?
If so then we can eliminate Tx/Rx binding as the cause.

The sound card gets its power from the receiver, so is the receiver showing a light ? Green I think for Futaba ?

On the back left of the sound board there should be a green LED, which flashes when it is getting a signal.
You can sometimes see through the casing, it depends on the fitting of the case.

When you turn the system on, do you get a click or thump through the speakers ?

If you turn the volume up on the amplifier, can you hear a hiss from the speakers ?

Adrian.

Hi Didier

Looking at your photo it looks as though one of the cables is not connected correctly it looks reversed to me. Same colour should be on both sides

The very bottom one on your photo

I cannot tell about the others it may be worth checking all are correct

Regards Shaun

hello.
thanks for support.
reveiver and transmiter were already binded, (using same TX/RX but switching from silver to red boxes), works well (tested with servo)
motors are working correctly (a bit tricky to set up, but it works)
receiver has green stable light

No sound when switching on the "isolator"
no hiss from the speaker, whatever the volume.
some times i have thumps in speakers at regular pace, but that's all
as said, when turning on the system, absolutely no sound from system
no sound when pushing the "binding" button to set up sound with engine.

Adrian, i will check but the only led i can see inside of the box is red (but did not verified if any other visible)
it is located in the area of the "A" of the Armortek sticker
Regards
Didier

If that plug is reversed then that will shut down the sound card.

There are various methods to prevent the plugs being put in the wrong way round, such as bevels on the corners of one side and a locating strip down the side of the plug, but it is still possible to plug things in the wrong way round.

Hello
at a time futaba and other brand made specific plugs with devices that were preventing to plug upside down.
"Generic " R/c manufacturers came with an "unified" plug, that could be fit to any kind of branded servo / receiver
but doing this, plug could be fitted reversed.
Now this unified plug is quite the norm, alas

Hello
Soo, tried a minute ago with another sound module, brand New too.
Same issue
No beep when switched on, no beep when pressing initialisation button, and of course no sound
For this test, i ve used the cables provided with the new sound modules , as well as the old ones..
fast pace Green blinking on sound card side ans solid red on amplifier side
.no noise on speaker side at switch on, nor when amplifier at full
As if no connections between sound and amplifier ?
Question can programmation be lost if modules store and unused for a certain time ?
Otherwise would mean a transmiter /receiver pair working with silver boxes would not work wit Red ones ? (encoding issue ?)
Regards
Didier

I would rule out silver/red box or programming being lost as the issue.
I suspect you have a defective speaker shorting out the signal.
I would suggest trying alternatively with only one of the speakers connected or better yet if possible just have a known working speaker connected to one of the outputs.

Hello
So today tested :
speakers : both works fine (tested on car audio).
absolutely no sound heard whatever the volume / whatever the speaker connected when connected to the sound module.
other set of transmitter / receiver : same issue, no sound heard when switching on, and impossible to perform programmation (or if programmation works, i have no info on it as no sound heard).

i will try again tomorrow, looking at the green blinking led, as it condition should change when starting / performing the teaching / set up.
if i have those, then definetly an issue in between the sound card and the amplifier (as per benedini documentation) internally to the sound module.
i will also check the voltage at the entry of the sound card (supplied by receiver / power module), at the entry of the amplifier (also supplied by power module) and at speaker's end.
after that, i do not know what a could do more (well till aug. 5 at least !)
Regards.
