Jagdpanther G2 - Summer 2024 release

For those of you that dont get the newsletter, here is a link to it:
Armortek - Jagdpanther announcement

The contents are also below, albeit in a less attractive format.

It's official - announcing our latest kit
We are very pleased to announce that our next kit will be an iconic tank destroyer from the World War 2 era - The Jagdpanther (or "Hunting Panther") Sd.Kfz. 173.

THE ARMORTEK JAGDPANTHER

We will be making the JAGDPANTHER AUSF. G2 which was manufactured around February/March 1945.

The G1 variant was the first to be produced starting in early 1944 and was based on the Panther chassis. The G2 variant came later in the production run, reflecting ongoing design adjustments and improvements based on battlefield experiences and production requirements. Specific visual clues between the two variants are:

SINGLE DRIVERS PERISCOPE

On the front glacis plate of the G2 there is only one drivers periscope as opposed to two on the early G1 Jagdpanther.

REAR DECK

The G1 variant used the Panther A rear deck whereas the G2 variant used the Panther G rear deck which, along with having a different layout and bolt pattern was slightly longer.

SCHUTZKAPPE - ARMOURED TOWER

Introduced in October 1944, the raised armoured tower over the left hand engine colling exhaust fan allowed for a crew compartment heating system (Kampfraumheizung).

FLAMMENVERNICHTER - FLAME MUFFLER

Flame suppression mufflers were introduced to eliminate glowing exhaust pipes and hide give-away flames from misfiring engines.

Relocation of the tools

To prevent the tools getting lost and damaged, on the G2 variant they were relocated from the hull sides to the rear of the tank.

It should be noted that even within the G2 variant of the Jagdpanther, the tank evolved with experience and with the availability of parts in a supply chain constrained environment..

ARMORTEK'S BEST JAGDPANTHER EVER

Armortek fans will note that we have made the Jagdpanther twice before - once in 2009 and again in 2011 (as part of the Panther uni-hull series).

Our 2024 version will bring several improvements over the previous versions with over 80% of the parts being redesigned.

Key design improvements as featured on our last Panther G are:
  • More accurate pressed steel wheels
  • More detailed sprockets
  • More detailed front mudguards
  • More detailed and welded rear bins
  • More detailed rear deck
  • More detailed roof vent and close defence weapon.
In addition, Jagdpanther specific improvements will be:
  • More detailed crew heater
  • Flame suppression exhaust system
  • Relocation of the tools
And finally, on the option packs we will have:
  • The new Armortek belt drive system that uses brushless motors and Kevlar reinforced belts.
  • A reworked gun elevation and slew mechanism
  • A proportional sound system
  • A proportional engine exhaust system
  • A reworked gun recoil system
  • A light pack for the front light and a machine gun animation pack

Excellent news, folks! One of the most attractive WW2 vehicles in my opinion. I should have waited until this model became available again - instead, I went down the road of creating a "new kit" using Armortek supplied spares and parts gleaned from fellow Forum members. If you haven't already seen my build log it's available in 8 parts under the Jagdpanther section.

Nice to see that the new model is being based on The Weald Foundation's vehicle. I was involved in this tank's restoration back in the day and if you'd like to see my personal photos of the project, then check out parts 5 & 6 of my New Build log.

Well done Kian and Monique - I know you've just made many people's year!

All the best from a currently gale lashed Normandy.

Lord, give me strength to change the things I am able to change.... and patience to endure the things I can not change :-) A bunch of Tiger and Panther variants, a few 88`s and smaler ones like Hetzer, Stug III, etc. and soon a Leo II

Hi,

I asked about this a couple of weeks ago and Kian confirmed that the compartment heater, muffled exhausts and large idler wheel will all be available to order once the production run is complete.

Cheers

Sean
